چکیده
Abstract We present a high-resolution optical spectropolarimetric observation of the red supergiant VY CMa. The spectrum CMa contains numerous emission features that are mainly due to molecular bands TiO, ScO, and VO. In addition, lines Ba ii , Ca i Na K i, Rb identified in spectrum. Our shows all exhibit very large abrupt linear polarization reduction, i.e., depolarization, across band heads up 10% or higher with respect continuum level. observations demonstrate clearly associated largest depolarization. Using this property together simulated TiO we able identify most broad as emission. also reveal previously unknown phenomenon atomic either absoprtion depolarization line profile, doublet showing almost complete observed pattern is similar among lines, even though spectral belong different species. Together recent high resolution observations, discuss origin suggest absorption scattering complex circumstellar environment CMa, especially dense dusty clumps located on plane sky.

The Molecular Envelope around the Red Supergiant Vy Cma
We present millimeter interferometric observations of the molecular envelope around the red supergiant VY CMa with the SubMillimeter Array (SMA) . The high angular resolution (< 2) allows us to derive the structure of the envelope as observed in the 1.3 mm continuum, CO(2-1), CO(2-1) and SO(65-54) lines emission. The circumstellar envelope is resolved into three components: a dense, compact and...
متن کاملPACS and SPIRE spectroscopy of the red supergiant VY CMa*
With a luminosity >105 L and a mass-loss rate of ∼2 × 10−4 M yr−1, the red supergiant VY CMa truly is a spectacular object. Because of its extreme evolutionary state, it could explode as supernova any time. Studying its circumstellar material, into which the supernova blast will run, provides interesting constraints on supernova explosions and on the rich chemistry taking place in such complex ...
متن کاملASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Diffraction - limited Speckle - Masking Interferometry of the Red Supergiant VY CMa ⋆
We present the first diffraction-limited images of the mass-loss envelope of the red supergiant star VY CMa. The two-dimensional optical and NIR images were reconstructed from 3.6 m telescope speckle data using bispectrum speckle interferometry. At the wavelengths ∼ 0.8 µm (RG 780 filter), 1.28 µm, and 2.17 µm the diffraction-limited resolutions of 46 mas, 73 mas, and 124 mas were achieved. All...

متن کاملSubmillimeter vibrationally excited water emission from the peculiar red supergiant VY CMa
Context. Vibrationally excited emission from the SiO and H2O molecules probes the innermost circumstellar envelopes of oxygen-rich red giant and supergiant stars. VY CMa is the most prolific known emission source in these molecules. Aims. Observations were made to search for rotational lines in the lowest vibrationally excited state of H2O. Methods. The APEX telescope was used for observations ...
